I’ve been reading “The Collaborative Spirit” by Twyla Tharp, a gift from a fellow castmate. Here are some of my favorite thoughts on collaboration:
-collaborators aren’t born, they’re made. Or, to be more precise, built, a day at a time, through practice, through attention, through discipline, through passion and commitment—and, most of all, through habit.
-you need a challenging partner. In a good collaboration, differences between partners mean that one plus one will always equal more than two.
-I learned that the way to speak to people…is almost never to yell at them. Yelling is overkill.
-I learned the power of “thank you”. At every opportunity, dozens of times aday—you just can’t say “thank you” too often.
-I learned how to look for the obvious, never to forget common sense and to use it with flair.
